First things first, what does SEO even stand for?
Search engine optimisation. This is method or strategy for getting the most visitors to your website. Now that may sound complicated, or just something you don’t have time to think about, but actually taking just a few small steps could make a massive difference.
In this case, we are talking more specifically about Local SEO, this allows you to promote your gym or health club to the most valuable audience, those living within local proximity and therefore close enough to become a member.
Search engines provide you with localised results, for example, if you were to search for a shoe shop, the top results that the search engine will provide will be local, rather than a nationwide result including shops hundreds of miles away. This would work exactly the same for terms such as ‘Gym’ or ‘Health Club’ etc. But if there are many gyms in your area you are going to need to work just that little bit harder to ensure you are the featured gym.
Everyone wants their website to rank first in Google but for many websites, this just isn’t going to happen, however, when your business relies on getting customers through your door, or in this case members coming to your club and joining, local SEO can be a great marketing and a sales tool.
The power of reviews is one that should not be underestimated
What’s the first thing that you do when you are about to make a purchase or a financial commitment? Look for reviews of course! In fact, now 92% of consumers now read online reviews for local businesses. 1
Does your club already have any reviews on Google? If yes, that’s great, the more reviews you have the better, if you answered no, fear not. Reviews are simple for your members to do and what’s more, if you offer a little incentive you will no doubt get better take up!
